11th for 58th and???? more to follow I am sure... Dale said he would not drop below 30th, so I would think a player he wanted is coming our way...

The Owen Sound Attack and Barrie Colts have swung a deal, swapping first round import picks. The complete details of the trade are not known at this time as there could be multiple parts to the deal.

Quite the details from the Attack website... so even they don't know it appears :)

Attack and Colts Make Deal
6/29/2010

The Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League announces that they have traded their first round selection (11th overall) in the 2010 CHL Import Draft to the Barrie Colts in exchange for defenseman Matt Stanisz, a 4th round selection in 2012 and Barrie’s 58th selection overall in the 2010 CHL Import Draft.

Stanisz, a 20 year old defenseman from Burlington, ON. has played in 195 games over 4 seasons with the Colts, notching 3 goals and 42 assists. Stanisz will provide a steady, overage presence on what is expected to be a much more experienced Owen Sound Attack blue line by Training Camp in August.

“We are very pleased that we were able to acquire a character player like Matt,” stated Attack General Manager, Dale DeGray. “He is going to provide a veteran presence in our dressing room, on the ice and in our community and all three of those were very important to us moving forward.”

The Attack will now select 58th overall in the 2010 CHL Import Draft.

So...what's this do for the blueline? Any improvement over last year? You lose McGurk and Doczy and gain Stanisz, who's pretty much another McGurk--a reliable, disciplined, stay-at-home character kind of guy . Who's waiting in the wings to be the 7th D? Does DeGray keep making changes on the back end? There was some talk he wanted a 20 year old, which he now has, plus another 19 year old? What are the pairings going to look like? So many questions, so few answers!

Agreed but remember it is still June. The price sure looks right.

This one one the surface is questionable. 11th for 58th and a 20 year old D may with 4 seasons, 195 games and 45 points. This puts him right up there with 18 yr old Schemitsch point wise but it took him 4 yrs to do it. Unless there is more to it I don't see this as a great deal. Take the 11th pick it had to be as good as what we got.

a very good deal for the Attack, time will tell I guess but a 20 yr old dman who was +45 last year with all that experience is exactly what the doctor ordered to replace Mike McGurk on the Attack defence. ...just my opinion
I get a feeling that Dale is not done with another dman and maybe someone up front on the wish list.

Don't put to much into the import swap #'s , teams are getting tired of drafting players that either do not show or their agents make ridiculous demands. I refer you to Thomas Kana, his horsing around gave Futa one giant headache. You see Windsor and Guelph giving up on guys they drafted 2 years ago. DeGray will take a dart and throw it at board with the 58th pick and tell the kid to show up to camp if he wants and if he cracks the squad the Attack will pick up the tab for his flight. Stanisz is a stud and that's what the Attack need and whoever Barrie picks at 11th will have a pricetag. DeGray makes a steal here.

I agree and I like the deal.

Why not trade down and pick up an OA and 4th round pick while still getting the guy you wanted?

Who knows what the 4th round pick will be down the road it could be a good player.

The Attack know they need an experienced defence and this helps.

Don't expect too many answers to be supplied in June.

I expect some of the defence from last year will not be here next year. The import and Stanisz are two new defence who will be part of the top 6 leaving only four more spots.

Let's get to training camp before we look at pairings.

Without knowing anything about our import pick I love this deal.Matt Stanisz is like Mcgurk but IMHO a little bit better D-man and the fourth can be saved or packaged with a player in another deal.If the import d turns out than this deal is a steal for us.Hopefully our d is a little deeper than last yr,Stanisz would be a good partner for Jesse as he can hold the fort when jesse decides to jump up.IMHO that was a big problem last yr we weren't deep enough to have our solid stay at home guy paired with our river boat gambler.I will close by welcoming Matt to O.S I have always admired his solid non flashy play and look forward to having him on our side.
Sports don't build character they reveal it!!!!!!
