Bayshore to Get Sparkling New Look
7/6/2010

(from www.attackhockey.com)

The Owen Sound Attack is pleased to announce that the Hockey Club will be making a purchase donation to the City of Owen Sound and the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre by having new boards put into the playing surface of the J.D. McArthur Arena, the home of the Owen Sound Attack. Entirely new boards, kick plate and top strip will be installed into the J.D. McArthur Arena prior to the start of the 2010-2011 Ontario Hockey League season.

“Looking at other OHL facilities, this is something that needed to be done,” stated Brent Fisher on behalf of the Attack Ownership Group. Fisher went on to say that, “This is not only our home; it is the home of numerous minor sports organizations, various men’s and women’s rec leagues, High School sports and so on. Our Ownership Group is proud to be a key contributor to sports and recreation in this community and look forward to doing so for many more years to come.”

The estimated cost of this project is $8,500.00 and adds to the five year, $50,000.00 commitment the Attack has put forth to the Regional Recreation Centre Fundraising Committee.

Good news here for the city.

Is it just me, but the cost of this project seems VERY reasonable.

When they talk about replacing the boards, I thought this would be a costly venture.
Maybe the overall scope is a lot more simple than I imagine.

Things that make you go hmmmmm..

I would bet that they're referring to re-facing the boards. Pretty simple. The old, banged-up 1/4 inch plastic sheets are unscrewed and then shiny new ones put back onto the existing frame and stanchions. It will look sharp, though!

The last 2 years have seen sticker advertisements and not the plastic coverings over top. I believe these are for a whole new board system of the plastic material used at the zamboni entrance and not the wood as is used around the rest of the perimeter.

How about turning them around if it's just refacing them, unless they've done that already.

Don't be too pleasantly surprised at the cost quite yet. It may be the same person that did the Rec. Centre estimate!!

However, it is good news ansd good to see the Attack hnour their committment.
