Attack and Tiley Part Ways
Asst. Coaching Applications Now Being Accepted

7/20/2010

Dale DeGray, General Manager of the Owen Sound Attack announced today that the hockey club is currently seeking applications for the Assistant Coaching position. The position has become available after former Assistant Coach, Brad Tiley and the club could not come to terms on a new agreement.

“We would like to thank Brad for all of his contributions over the past year”, stated Dale DeGray. “After speaking with Brad over the last little while, it was apparent we weren’t going to come to a mutual agreement that satisfied both parties and both Brad and I felt it was best to move on.”

With a core group of players returning for the upcoming season, Dale DeGray believes this is the perfect opportunity for an Assistant Coach to make a positive impression in the Ontario Hockey League. “There is no doubt this is an appealing situation for any person with coaching experience. They would have the opportunity to come and work under a quality coach and be given every opportunity to hone their skills at the Major Junior Level.”

With the earlier departure of Jeff Reid, Tiley becomes the second Assistant Coach to part ways with the Attack over the off-season, leaving the opportunity for a fresh face to join Mark Reeds behind the bench for the 2010-2011season.

Applications? Is this for real? Our G.M. has no ideas or contacts to help him replace the departed assistants, it's beyond belief. Makes you wonder if both men just decided to jump ship. I would love to be a fly on the wall during the interview process. Anyone else think this will result in the hiring of someone with little or no Jr.A experience who is willing to work really cheap? The other scenario would be for Dale to hire a close friend or relative for the position after pretending to pour through the hundreds of applications I'm sure he'll receive.

Attack Fans: Admittedly from a long way away, to me this is a very bizarre development. And disappointing.

With both the GM and head coach entering his fourth year with the organization, one would expect they'd have their ducks lined up a little bit better than this by now. When members of a new regime take over, there's no doubt they deserve at least a year, maybe even two, to get their bearings about them. In the meantime, things will be missed and mistakes made. Understood. But both Dale DeGray and Mark Reeds have been with the Attack more than long enough to have gotten their poop together by now.

Best regards from waudby.

Maybe Tiley was next. Lets go back to his draft year with Boston, he thought he was worth far more than the Bruins were offering and it cost him his shot at the show. Could he be still over valuing himself?

Darn, I gave my word that I wouldn't comment until 10 games into the next season

I'll keep my word and just say that I like what Waudby said

Enjoy this great summer

Hockey fans have opinions, it does not mean they want to coach.

Attack fans are no different than any other fan of any team and any sport.

While there are many opinions expressed on here some of the information consists of hard stats that one can't argue.

Goldfish you have opinions just like anyone else and after I have listened to them, I never ever thought you wanted to coach. So why do you think people on here want to coach just because they express their opinions?

Flash and STM have opinions as well that I have listened to over the years. I never ever thought they wanted to coach after I listened to what they said.

Message boards are not going away.

Not all the information or opinions are 100% accurate. just like most things you have to take the good with the bad.

May draw some laughs, but i still would rather see O'Leary behind the bench and not as an assistant coach.

" O" would be okay behind the bench this year as an assistant, not as a head coach this year, unless they dump Reeds sometime during the season.

Do what they should have done in the first place and hire david bell as head coach. Just my opinion. I think he has earned his shot.

I would personally prefer if they would try a NEW experiment and not re-hash past situation that hasn't worked BOTH times they tried it!

I would like to see the Attack bring in the BEST person available for the position, and if that means using "outside of the box" tactics...then I am all for it.

For any to think that Reeds and DeGray don't have contacts is a little bit naive. Don't for one minute think that these guys don't have a list of contacts.
The timing of this is a little bit concerning, but I am confident that we should be able to come up with something solid.

I think DeGrays approach to suggest the submittal of resumes was maybe to find someone that was really Hungry...and not just expecting the position because of who they know...which seems to be the routine of the "boys club" regardless of talent or knowledge.

We even see evidence of this in the NHL this year don't we?

BTW Digger...thanks for saying what most of us were thinking.

For those that are not aware Tiley has been looking for employment outside of hockey for some time now. The Attack have waited long enough for him to decide if he wanted to continue his coaching career.

Myself I would rather they take the time to interview lot's of candidates before a decision is made. It was some time ago Jeff was not rehired and the hockey world knew at that time they would be hiring an assistant so they must have enough resumes to go over.

I would prefer an individual that has coached above Jr hockey and a person that played defence in his career.

Tiley was a pro D-man and after his arrival our D went down the tubes. Get the best man you can for the job bearing in mind that just because you played doesn't mean you can coach.

The problem with Tiley was he never coached before. The best man for the job must have some coaching experience this year.
