I was at the game today. McNiven was backing up but was rocking a Laval Rocket hat. Wearing Canadiens gear (even pants) like Fucale did last year. Just my opinion but Michael did not look too enthused to be there.

If you have ever met Micheal and talked to him seriously about hockey you would realize he is very confident and intense. His not looking happy would be because he wants to start EVERY game.

Might be Worth noting. Mcniven with the Brampton Beasts has appeared in 3 games giving up 14 goals which is a tie for the most goals allowed by a goalie in the league currently with a 4.59 GAA (42nd overall ) and an .864 (42nd overall)save percantage with 2 regulation Losses and 1 ot loss. Not exactly the start he was looking for in the pros. Maybe theres still hope OS could get him back? Although his numbers dont seem good it also a fairly small sample size and very early in the season. But something to ponder for sure

It is a small sample size plus the fact that he is playing against pro's. I know some people because it is ECHL he would be better suited here playing important games but we will be tested there playing against men. If they were going to send him back they would do it soon as it won't be long before the O/A deadline is here.

I'd like to see McNiven succeed. I certainly don't hope for him to crash and burn and then return to Owen Sound.

Montreal player development is run by who? That's the person who is crashing and burning in public.

If McNiven is playing this way because he's unhappy it won't help at all......unless it gets him traded.....but his value is dropping by the day (just by playing in the ECHL, never mind that he's playing less than perfectly).

I'm not sure, but could anyone tell me how well scouted the ECHL is? I know it gets no press or national television....and most cases no regional TV....or radio. But how important is it to scout this league?

I can tell you this....
I've lived in a few AHL cities (which is a step up from the ECHL) and the product is boring....the superstars of junior make few if any appearances (and that would be a big deal/thrill).

'Men' versus 18, 19, 20, 21 year olds? The difference is experience and knowledge.....not speed, reflexes, or desire. If your experience can compensate you can keep up with the kid. That's how it works. The ones that can keep up with the best of the 21 year old kid superstars are the former 21 year old kid superstars. You won't see any of them in the ECHL.

McNiven...I am fairly certain...is not having a poor start because the league is better. It's most likely another issue.

There will be a few adamant defenders of the ECHL around the area here. I understand that. I also understand why they packed it in and quit.....opting for school a 'real' job' or local hockey.

Interestingly Mcniven is still up with Laval in the AHL even though Lindgren was sent back as of friday.. so right now they have a log jam of Lindgren Fucale and Mcniven all stuck in Laval. Also of note the Brampton Beasts have Andrew Dagostini and Marcus hoberg(an ottawa prospect) on there roster both have seemed to play 7 games a peice and Dagostini has the better numbers... could this possibly mean what I hope it means? Or atleast potentially lead to it?

Interesting Note to add just read on a brampton/Laval thread on halfboards that currently Montreal has 0 prospects in brampton and some suggest they may cut ties with the team for affiliation.. odd maybe thats just that posters opinion but interesting regardless apparently Ottawa has a few prospects in Brampton and the same person suggested they might take over bramptons affiliation.. id assume after the season if it was to happen

I'm curious, though.....where's he going to go?

Or is he planning to wear a suit and tie for a large part of the season?

I'm serious.

Do the math and let me know how it works out.

Not sure but Laval only has 2 tenders now Fucale was sent to Brampton. One thing to remember is it is not only on ice hockey skills that need to be developed it is adult skills that need to be developed. For most this is there first kick at the real world they have to pay bills feed themselves, the team has there set practice's but it is up to the players when they do there personal training.Taking into consideration all these outside pressures many teams are ok with a player slowly working into the lineup as they are working on all these LIFE SKILLS.Bottom line Micheal won't be back. Now with my history on predictions Iwill be wrong and I would be ok with that but don't hold your breathe.

I agree with Watcher.. do the math.. they are still missing one goalie that everyone is forgetting about .. they still have Montya to put somewhere when he gets back from injury.. Fucale also is only in brampton for two starts according to the tweet that I read then going back to Laval. So again do the math let us know how it works out but Neimi as far as I know when needed in Montreal actually hasn’t been half bad i believe. However i didnt look to close though so I could be wrong just going off memory. Brampton for some reason has an Ottawa prospect playing for them plus D’Agostini who has been pretty decent considering there squad.

Neimi although only a tiny sample size in Montreal has a 2.40 Gaa and a 9.19 save percentage but only in 75 minutes of hockey
