A critical win by the Attack. Good comeback , 3 straight goals by the Attack, game tying by our new dman on his old club , he looked pumped.

Bowman with back to back solid starts.

Suzuki looks like he's missing Gadjo .

Attack's Lyle proves his worth in Saturday's win

OWEN SOUND - Brady Lyle said it felt “weird” before stepping onto the ice as a new member of the Owen Sound Attack Saturday night at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre.

The 18-year-old defenceman, born and raised in North Bay, was facing his old teammates and friends for the first time since he was traded.

But the 6’ 1’’, 206-pound defenceman said things “weren’t working out” in North Bay and so he welcomed the chance to come to Owen Sound, where he thinks an offensive-defenceman like he is should fit right in.

“This is a good organization with a really strong team,” Lyle said in an interview before the game.

Saturday night he felt eager to face his old teammates.

“I’m really excited to get out there, to be honest, and play against these guys. At the same time, it’s kind of weird though because they’re all my buddies and the guys that I went to battle for every game.”

He’s an “offensive, puck-moving defenceman. I like to get up in the rush . . . I feel I make quick exits from our zone, don’t like to spend too much time there. But at the same time, if I need to, I’m capable of shutting down other teams.”

He proved his worth at 1:37 of the 3rd period when he tied the game at two apiece –- and shifted momentum Owen Sound’s way. The Attack went on to win the game 3-2.

It was his third goal of the season and his first for the Attack. He was assisted by Matthew Struthers and Maksim Sushko.

After the game, Lyle said he felt good about scoring his first Owen Sound goal against his old team, particularly since the Attack “needed a boost” at that point in the game.

When the Attack are rolling, it’s hard to stop, he said. “It just takes one bounce.” He was named the Attack’s hardest working player of the game.

But playing in his hometown was special too, he said before the game.

Since the Battalion moved to North Bay from Brampton for the 2013-14 season, the city has had an injection of hockey excitement and so it was a nice place, he said.

Lyle likes to think he served as a role model on the Battalion. He was selected in the first round at age 16.

He played all of his hockey there, except for two years, Grades 9 and 10. Those years he played for Shattuck-St. Mary’s, a private school’s hockey team in Minnesota, whose famous alumni include Sidney Crosby and Jonathan Toews, among other NHL elites.

So when he was picked by the Battalion and returned to play in front of the hometown fans, Lyle felt at home. “It was kind of welcoming and kind of felt like it was bigger than it really was. It was a really cool experience.”

Saturday night the Attack had some chances in the first period but the Battalion struck first with a power play goal by Justin Brazeau, with 1:27 left in the period, when Matthew Struthers were called for hooking.

Brazeau scored North Bay’s second goal, in the second period at 1:03, which was upheld on review. It was on another power play, after Struthers took another penalty, this time for slashing.

The Attack’s first goal came shortly after, at 2:19 of the second, from Sean Durzi, his eighth of the season, a shorthanded goal assisted by Nick Suzuki.

After Lyle’s tying goal early in the third, the Attack turned up the pressure and scored the game-winning goal at 14:14 by Zachary Roberts, his third of the season, assisted by Chase Campbell and Aidan Dudas.

Owen Sound outshot North Bay 34 to 21.

North Bay’s Brazeau took the first star, Attack goalie Zack Bowman took the second, and Attack defenceman Sean Durzi was the third star of the game.

The Attack play again at 2 p.m. Sunday at home against the Windsor Spitfires.

Watched the vidoe on the game last night and have to give Bowman credit for another very solid effort last night making some huge saves as the team rallied from being down 2 goals.

It looks like the coach got through to in practice about playing better in front of teh goalie after the weekend in Erie.

With 2 back to back solids wins for Bowman I would start him again today against the Spits.
