18 yr old Mat Struthers, 2nd and 14th picks to North Bay for OA Bretton Mackenzie.
Has DeGray lost his mind ?

Brutal!! For a rental player? Struthers could still develop into a star.

Here's the difference. SSM rental player will take them to the league finals.

Ours will take the Attack to hopefully 2 home playoff dates.

Im not convinced a team that finished December 1-12 is going to get past four playoff games.

Good or bad, this is the unique part of OHL hockey that keeps it interesting. The January posturing and final molding of the clay. I don't hate the deal. I don't see Struthers as becoming much more than a decent serviceable OHLer. A "star" is optimistic... and when the Attack get back on the rails, I'll announce "I told you so"! Ha ha. Signed, "Tryin hard to keep the faith".
The interesting thing is where Brett will fit into the plans as far as line up. He's another left-handed forward and you'd think Gadj has LW locked up on the top line. Hopefully create some more consistent secondary scoring.

Mackenzie is a centre, so I'd imagine he'd slot into 1st line, at lest until Hancock returns.

Careful now, Matt Struthers is a better player than that. He's spent most of the season buried on 3rd and 4th line while 'veterans' take up valuable spots.

By comparison, MacKenzie and Struthers both have 9 goals this season, on equally inept squads. I'm guessing MacKenzie got more minutes.

His shooting percentage is 6.7% Struthers hits the twine 12.6 % of the time.

As far as face off wins, Struthers is 50%.
Mackenzie less than 50 %.
Struthers +3, MacKenzie -12.

I know these are only stats, but why does it seem our players are always valued lower, and the incoming are always rated higher?

I'm not knocking MacKenzie, I'm hoping a change of scenery will bump up his game and help the Attack win .

The question is, could we have achieved the same without giving up more than we got back ?

It feels weird after a 1-12 month to see the team going for an older player, but the fact of the matter is Struthers had only teased his potential. Unlike Gadjovich who exploded at 18, Matt has really struggled offensively. He had 9 of his 18 points in the first five weeks of the season, and has 9 points in the two full months since, really hurting in December. No matter how you slice it, he was the third best centre on this team and didn't step up with the holes in the lineup.

McKenzie has had a bit of a down year but Cordell James was really energized coming to Owen Sound. As a centre, he'll at least get the chance to centre Suzuki for a bit until Hancock comes back. That has me more optimistic than seeing Szypula centre the top line, who hasn't shown much of anything with that opportunity.

Hold on tight folks...

According to DeGray, MacKenzie will slot in the 2nd line.
So does that bump Dudas to top line until Hancock returns, or does he get shuffled to the wing on 2nd line?

There's a kid who doesn't need his development impeded while the powers that be do the two step shuffle, hoping to pull a rabbit out of their behind .

Struthers has increased his points per game this year to .56 not quite doubled .29 from last year and MacKenzie is at .74 vs last year at 1.0 points per game.

Just looking at those numbers it is an increase with McKenzie.... but a change of scenery did not help Bowman, Lyszczarccyk and Vertiy.

Lets hope Brett changes that and returns to his point per game average.

I'm just having a really hard time reconciling all the deals made this season , so far none have benefitted the Attack any more than keeping the players we already had.

We are a week away from seeing Gadjovich and maybe Sushko, no idea about Hancock (I heard he broke his hand ), and heard Roberts gone for the season .

So any guess who fills out our top two lines this weekend?

I've got Dudas, Suzuki and Mckenzie as our three best.
Three centres.

After that , what??
