I'm going to read any article in The Record written about the Rangers regardless of who writes it and what slant they put on it. At the same time though, there is nothing wrong with dissecting the articles and pointing out WHY they are biased and what I like or don't like about them. Everyone has that right, just as Hicks has a right to write what he wants.

Just as you gave this advice to people who complain about Hicks articles after they've read them, I give this advice back to you in regards to Hicks-complaint-threads that will obviously continue to pop up on here...

Only difference is this thread was created to talk about the player the rangers drafted in the import draft NOT to bash hicks....

Back to the real topic. Rieder says he will play for the Rangers. He'll be here in August to make it official.

I'm really looking forward to seeing him play - everything I've heard about him (which isn't much) is positive.
But you can bet on one thing, when the Flyers finally raise the Cup, there is a very good chance it will be handed to Richards first.

Have to give Jeff Hicks credit for today's article on Tobias Rieder. Well written. I guess Tobias is coming here because he along with many other imports knows this is the best place to play and was advised so by real hockey people not the media. Welcome to the Rangers Tobias and the region. Ziggy Ziggy, Ziggy Ziggy!

I posted the following on his blog: "You couldn't talk him out of it, eh?"

Oddly enough, my comment has been deleted. Thin skin, Jeff?

Your comment should be deleted from here to. This is about hockey not Hicks.

Now this thread is gone to discussing trolls. Tobias Reider was the title and focus of the thread. Hicks happened to write and article discussing Rieder's options during the time the thread was in process. He slanted the article against a player coming to the Rangers and garnered a response on this forum which was deserved. People do have the right to disagree with what is written in the media. As far as his blog goes most comments are left as they are unless someone becomes vile in their response. I just find it interesting that one article about Reider was negative towards the Rangers and the very next was in a positve manner. I just hope this guy makes an impact right away. Not too much known about him.

I would think a guy who is a potential NHL 1st rounder next June could have an immediate impact but keep in mind he's a rookie and a long way from home though. Not only will he have the OHL to adjust to but a whole new culture.
At least he's in Kitchener, home of Oktoberfest and formerly Berlin. That should help him adjust a little quicker. :P

5. Kitchener Rangers - Tobias Rieder - Forward
While he may not be big, Germany's Tobias Rieder is still considered to be a highly sought after prospect. He's performed admirably for Germany internationally for the past two years despite being a 1993 born player and he's already become a quality offensive player in the 2nd German league. Just to give you an idea, the highly anticipated Tom Kuhnhackl also played in the 2nd German league this year. Rieder, at one year younger, put up a similar stat line. Certainly seems like Rieder has a chance to at least have the type of impact Gabriel Landeskog did for Kitchener this season.
Scouting Report: German hockey expert Nils Kloppmann helps us out with Reider. "Tobias Rieder is maybe the most skilled German player ever. It's fun to watch him. He's a very good skater, good hands, his shot is very accurate, especially his backhander. I can't say anything bad about him besides his size. That's clearly his biggest weakness (5'9). But he's not afraid of traffic, so if he can maybe grow 2-3 inches and add some muscles, he's a legit prospect for the NHL. If he'd have normal size (6'0+), we'd talk about him as top 5 pick in the next draft I think. Last season he played with Tom Kühnhackl on a line and was IMO the better player although being younger and smaller."

This scouting report makes him sound like a picture perfect junior player. It talks about his exceptional skating and skill, but that size limits his NHL potential. How many all-stars in the OHL has that described? Here's hoping he's at that level. Looking forward to seeing him. Welcome Tobi.

I had a good laugh when I heard the name of his former team the Cannibals. Now that is hardcore. Hopefully we see "the cannibal" side of him when we face London!
Google won't search for Steve Downie because it knows you don't find Steve Downie, he finds you.
