Leafs' Rookie Tournament

Postby HockeyAddict on Sun Jul 04, 2010 6:03 pm

Though this is still 2 months away, I found an article in the Toronto Sun suggesting that the Leafs' annual rookie tournament will not be held at The Aud this year...

The Leafs might be getting a close look at Taylor Hall or Tyler Seguin in a Bruins’ sweater when Toronto stages its annual rookie tournament around the second week of September. Boston, Ottawa and Pittsburgh have been invited again after coming to Kitchener last year, but the tourney venue likely will change.

If this is true, this is very disappointing. I don't know if it is just me but I thoroughly enjoyed catching some of these games and would prefer not having to travel further to watch!

I don't know if this helps, but I find the experience of watching Leafs hockey can be replicated in other activities quite easily. For instance, you can punch yourself repeatedly in the head. Or perhaps you can drive your car into a wall. Or if you want the Leaf playoff hockey experience, you can go play a round of golf.

(Seriously though, that's too bad.)

The rookie tournament will be held in London this year, Leafs want to attract more fans from that area to "Leafs TV" good luck with that.

...and there's how they repay their loyal fans. Tens of thousands here have already succumbed to the cool-aid the Leafs have been selling for years. It pains me to say it but down London way where they have a choice between Detroit and Toronto hockey fans have shown they know their stuff and wont buy into the brand of garbage the Leafs have been passing of as NHL hockey for decades. Too bad the same can't be said for Waterloo Region.
Get well soon Ben.

With it being in London, did Kadri have anything to do with it?

PLenty of leaf lovin koolaid drinkers here in London as well, unfortunately. I think it just comes down to $. They almost sell out a Phlyers pregame every year at about 60-70 bucks a pop and usually only a reg or two in the line ups. Add the Leafs to the mix and theyll sure sell 9000.
They should be giving back to the communities that support them. (Esp after the last 5 yrs of crap) Have it in smaller centres and make it cheap so a kid who will never be able to get to the ACC can enjoy. The laughs make enough $ during the year as it is. No need to max dollars for a rookie tourny.

Gotta make some revenue in preseason as they won't in the postseason.

They still manage to be one of the highest valued franchise in the NHL, somehow. The sheep just keep filling in.

Sorry but until that franchise wins more than 1 Lady Bing award in my lifetime, there's no reason for them to get any respect from me.

Leaf fans are like Rodney Dangerfield. They get no respect. Even Harold Ballard who was being interviewed while sitting up in his hole in the wall was asked what he thought about Leaf fans sitting below him with paper bags over their heads. He said by the look of their faces they should be wearing bags.
