Peter is definitely one the best people to ever work for the Rangers organization. Memorial Cup win in 2003 and Finalist in 2008.

He is the one everyone else is judged against and deservedly so. He changed the culture for the better. While he did get a good start inheriting players like: Derek Roy, Michael Richards, Andre Benoit, Steve Eminger, Marcus Smith and Scott Dickie, he kept things competitive season to season and goy to the Memorial Cup Final twice.

Just for some perspective, here is some Peter DeBoer information:

Coaching Record

2001-2002: 81 points - Playoffs: 1st Round: Lost 4-0 to Guelph

2002-2003: 100 points - Playoffs: 1st Rd: Beat Soo 4-0, 2nd: beat Guelph 4-1, 3rd Beat Plymouth 4-3 League Final: Beat Ottawa 4-0. MEMORIAL CUP WIN over Hull

2003-2004: 76 points - Playoffs: 1st Rd Defeated 4-0 by Plymouth

2004-2005: 83 points - Playoffs: 1st Rd: Beat Erie 4-2, 2nd Rd: Beat Owen Sound 4-0, 3rd Rd: Lost to London 4-1

2005-2006: 98 points - Playoffs: 1st Rd: Beat Soo 4-0, 2nd Rd: Lost 4-1 to Plymouth

2006-2007: 110 points - Playoffs: 1st Rd: Beat Plymouth 4-0, 2nd Rd: Beat Sarnia 4-0, 3rd Rd: Beat Soo 4-1. League Final Beat Bellevile 4-3 MEMORIAL CUP FINALIST, lost the game 4-1 to Spokane.

Drafting - First 3 Picks

2002: Evan McGrath, Carlo Di Rienzo, Matt Auffrey
2003: Devereaux Heshmatpour, Chris Gravelding, Joe McCann
2004: Justin Azevedo, Jack Coombs, Juilan Machabee
2005: Michael Pelech, Yves Bastien, Dan Kelly
2006: Nazim Kadri, Mike Mascioli, Jamie Commerford
2007: Cam Fowler, Jeremy Morin, Todd Martin

In hindsight, it shows that even the best can't always predict who a star player might be at draft time.

One thing i liked about DeBoer was his ability to find players such as free agents or guys who weren't getting icetime with their teams. He would sign these players and mold them into important pieces of the team.

Recently i think Heibert missed out on a good d-man prospect...Rob Proner is a 1999..6'2...210lbs...was Saginaw's 2nd round pick in 2015 (30th overall)...put up nice numbers in Cambridge last season...47gp...9g...20a...29pts...153pim...he sat at home the past couple weeks asking for a trade...Barrie picked him up for a 5th pick in 2018 at the trade deadline...you would think the Rangers would have taken a chance on him since they went into rebuild mode but no,they let him slip through their fingers...DeBoer would pluck these kinda players off of rosters every year.

I'm hoping Jonathon Yantsis can turn into a solid OHLer. Born in 1999, he's 6 feet, 2 inches and drives to the net nicely. On paper it seems like a good free agent pick up by Murray. 19 goals and 21 assists in 25 games in AAA with the Markham Waxers. He was leading the Waxers in points at the time of his signing with the Rangers ahead of team mates who were drafted.

Other free agent signings like Jack Kilgour and Thomas Welsh didn't make any impact, but hopefully in time Yantsis does.
