Good Later Round Picks Over the Years

Postby JEF on Mon Apr 10, 2017 2:52 pm

Just a few players picked in later rounds that did pretty well for us.

Michael Catenacci - 8th Round
Jason Akeson - 6th
John Gibson - 11th
Matt Pepe - 12th
Frank Hora - 8th
Mason Kohn - 10th
Zach Lorentz - 12th
Dylan Seitz - 15th

Hopefully we have a few gems in our later rounds this draft

Without a doubt the greatest late round drafts by the Rangers have to be in the early 70s when they took Randy Pearce and Gilbert Dionne with their picks in the LAST TWO ROUNDS.

2 great ones for sure. Played together from 88-90.

There are some good late round picks there. The only I might disagree with at the moment is Seitz. He may turn out to be a good late round pick, but he has only played one season. I would add though Nick Magyar(12th). He had more goals in 3 seasons than Kohn has in 4.

Nick Magyar was,at best, an average player who was as good in his third year as he was in his first. He didn't progress!

He also suffered injury problems. Labeling him a n underachiever is fine because he hasn't progressed as hoped since his second year but from a drafting standpoint I'd say he was a good pick because management couldn't have predicted that.
