Wow, seems like yesterday when he "committed" to Maine.

This from his 2016-2017 coach......

"Playing in our league as a 16-year old defenseman is difficult," said 73's Head Coach Ron Tugnutt. "Jack adapted well and his skill and confidence really took off in the second half of the season. He is working hard to become a well-rounded defenseman," added Tugnutt.

His dad played 25 games for the Rangers in 1989 and had a decent NHL career.

LR is right. Things just got interesting on defense AND he's a righty.

He could be here just to see how he compares to the other talent and the the training/ice time. Keeping his options open.
If things don't work out in Maine he'll have a pretty good idea of where he stands with the Rangers. He was at the spring camp in 2016 and as long as he pays his way this camp he'll retain his college eligibility.

You would let go of the duplicate skillset, right? York's playing style is more like Gentles than it is Peterson, isn't it?

If York is looking to stay here (vs Maine) I keep him over Gentles or Peterson (slight preference for Peterson).

The Kitchener Rangers announced today that defenceman Jack York has committed to an Ontario Hockey League standard player agreement with the Club.

The fifth-round, 98th overall choice in the 2016 OHL Priority Selection was a member of the Kemptville 73’s of the CCHL during the 2016-17 season, registering six goals and 13 points in 49 games.

The 5’11, 180lb rearguard participated in Rangers’ Spring Camp in April and had a steadying presence during the team’s Training Camp this week.

“We would like to welcome Jack and his family to the Rangers organization,” said Kitchener general manager Mike McKenzie.

“Jack had a great season in Kemptville last year and was recognized as one of the top young players in the league by being named to the All-Rookie Team. We look forward to seeing him continue his development here in Kitchener.”

Agree it looks good, however they still haven't won a game yet. We will see how it goes in practise as opposed to in theory.

Medway, you're right things look good on paper, but must look good on the ice too.

Our GM has made some moves and has not gone into this coming season with the same players and situation at the end of last season. I'm cautiously optimistic that there will be a noticeable improvement.
