Kitchener Rangers and Barrie Colts announce trade

The Kitchener Rangers announced today they have acquired goaltender Anthony Dumont-Bouchard in a trade with the Barrie Colts.
In exchange, the Colts will receive a 14th round pick (KIT) in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection.

The 20-year-old, Lėvis, QC native spent parts of three seasons as a member of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Drummondville Voltigeurs before being acquired by the Acadie-Bathurst Titan last season. He was picked up on waivers by the Colts this week.

In 35 regular season games between the Voltigeurs and Titan combined last season, Dumont-Bouchard posted a record of 20-9-1-1 with a 2.76 GAA and save percentage of .906%, along with four shutouts. In seven playoff appearances with the Titan last season he finished with a record of 4-1-0-0.

Some insurance at a reasonable price. Every point is going to be important this season and we can't afford to have a slow start. I feel good about Luke Richardson but with Opilka and McGonigle both recovering from injuries and Pfiel still developing we need a goalie like Anthony who can provide some steady support.

He may well seize this opportunity and be a number one goalie. He may also at the price of a 14th round pick, hold the fort until Opilka and or McGonigle play themselves back into form. This is a good pick up. Anthony has some solid numbers and should get a chance to shine and contribute.

This was mentioned tonight at the annual meeting. Opilka may need surgery on his other hip, so his future in hockey let alone the Rangers is in doubt. It is about his quality of life going forward. The Rangers had designs on Bouchard, but didn't think he would be there when he got down to the Rangers on wavier so they did a deal with Barrie who had the first wavier pick. He is expected to play Wednesday. McGonigle will probably be out another month.

Medway thanks for posting that information on Luke. It's a tough place for him to be in. At his young age he has already had 2 hip surgeries and may face another. It is sad that he may never play again and that the quality of life going forward for him is being talked about.

If I understand what you are saying in order to secure Anthony, MM knew Barrie had first choice of any waiver opportunities and worked a way to have Barrie claim him and trade him to Kitchener for a 14th rounder. That's a smart move to be sure to get him instead of waiting and hoping to see if he fell to them. It may involve a return favour down the road. Doing something like this for just a 14th rounder seems pretty generous on Barrie's behalf. Either way that's good work by MM.

Or maybe this just squares the Mavric Parks trade 'foul' of 2010

I presume MM has good scouting on Anthony D-B to go after him vs a known quantity in the discount OA goalie market like Raaymakers or Lazarev given our apparently urgent need and all the recent verbage about winning. Time will tell ... hopefully we have another Parker Van Buskirk on the roster :!:

Toadman, thanks for bringing his memory back. Good goalie, class act.

New goalie has a rough start against the Steelheads. He played the whole game letting in both goals neither of which where power play goals (from what I could determine). Both teams had 6 powerplay opportunities.

ADB had a GAA of 2.00 and a Save% of 0.917 in the game; if he keeps up the stats from his 'rough start' we might win a title

Bigger concern than goals against is goals for i.e. 1. Still exhibition game, doesn't count for anything.

One game with no Mascherin, no Bunnaman, no Meireles, no Hugg.

That puts a big hole in your offence.

When you look at who Mississauga were missing, they were playing against a similar level of skill. This is a chance for someone to step up. Still exhibition, only really counts from next weekend.
