The Kitchener Rangers have named forward Connor Bunnaman the club’s 53rd captain in franchise history.

The 19-year-old, fourth-year centre from Guelph, ON was selected by the Rangers in the 2nd round, 31st overall in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection. He was later selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 4th round, 109th overall in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

Bunnaman has tallied 63 goals and 105 points in 199 career regular season games played, along with seven goals and 10 points in 18 career postseason games.

Dressing in his 200th career regular season OHL game tonight, he will move into a tie for 41st place in franchise history for regular season games played with centre Barry Duench (1974-77).

“I am beyond excited to be named captain of the Kitchener Rangers,” said Bunnaman. “Looking at the talent and leadership in the history of Rangers’ captains, it is such an honour to be a part of it.

“We have a great group of guys this year and I know we are capable of doing something special. We are all looking forward to getting this season started and being back at The Aud in front of our amazing fans.”

“Connor Bunnaman exemplifies all the qualities we value in a team captain,” said head coach Jay McKee. “On and off the ice he consistently leads by example.

“Connor is the type of person and player who is highly respected by his teammates, not only for what he does on the ice, but for the quality person he is off the ice.

“We are very proud to announce Connor Bunnaman as our team captain for the 2017-18 season.”

Bunnaman was previously acknowledged as the recipient of the Blueline Club Trophy as Most Gentlemanly Player at the Rangers Awards Ceremony following the 2016-17 season.

A permanent group of alternate captains has not yet been named, however Adam Mascherin, Connor Hall and Jake Henderson will each wear an “A” during the team’s season opener tonight.

Good choice on captain.

I 'm wondering if they are waiting for Stanley to return for one of those A's.

Logan Stanley and Adam Mascherin are the alternates while a third A will 'float' amongst other players.
