The Northern Swing: NB (Nov 23), SSM (24), SBY (26)

Postby EchoThree on Thu Nov 23, 2017 11:23 am

Rangers (now 7th in CHL rankings) are on a winning streak going into this weekend. Given the travel and playing a very good SSM team on Friday, I think they will be doing well if they can get 4 out of 6 points this weekend. But of course we all hope for 6 out of 6!

Comments? Predictions?

Well, that was frustration to watch.

My sense is that the Rangers were looking ahead to SSM tomorrow and thought they could phone this one in. That's not going to cut it, regardless of what the CHL rankings say.

I seem to remember previously that when they get ranked in the CHL top 10, they lay an egg not long afterwards. Hope this is the only one in the next 4 games. I can live with this loss if they win the next 4.

On the good side, they came back from 2-goal deficits twice. On the bad side, they wouldn't have been down by 2 at all if they had played better defensively and took fewer penalties.

Hopefully they are really amped up for tonight's game against SSM.

I definitely think North Bay looked at that 7th ranking as a challenge. They wanted to show they were just as good if not better. And they were better for most of the night.
Rangers Pk did a 180.....so did the PP. Once again the 4th line played good. Damiani was the best player in blue.
Dineen will fetch a lot when traded. The winning goal was nice. Teams should watch that video and try to execute it the same way. The Rangers should certainly practice it and use it 5 on 3

The Soo goaltender is listed as 183 pounds but his upper body is,by far, the broadest I have seen in goaltenders.I think the league should have a look at how much equipment he has under that sweater.

That was sad. We looked totally disinterested.

Let's hope we salvage a couple of points in Sudbury.

We looked like a totally inept team playing a league contending team. Our top end players are simply not equal to what the Soo have. We would occasionally carry the puck over the Soo line and then make a pass directly onto the stick of a Soo player. We would gain possession in our own end and simply throw it into the air out of our zone. Then, the Soo would bring it back in. Folks, WE ARE SIMPLY NOT CONTENDERS REGARDLESS OF OUR RECORD!

I saw the interview with Vallarta and commented to my wife how big his shoulders were compared to his head. I know the goalies are all the same...... bean poles with equipment 2/3 the size of the net and I would agree with OA that regulations need to change. I love watching old clips where the pads were there to protect a goalie not cover the net like a piece of plywood.
As far as the game goes, UGLY is what comes to mind.
So I'll talk about the good. I've always liked Katchouk but Frost has really impressed me in the 2 games I've seen him play against the Rangers this year.

Well Thursday they were caught looking ahead to Friday and Friday they were, I don't know, unprepared for a fast skating Soo team? Disinterested? Ah well on to Sudbury and just like North Bay they have a big game coming up on Wednesday(and Friday), so I hope something comes out of the previous 2 games in that they remember to go all out in the first game and turn up for the second one. Oh and The Knights (played 1 game less) are closer to the Rangers than the Rangers are to The Soo (1 games less) and Sarnia. Owen Sound (2 games less) and Guelph (2 games less) are also in the picture. They need to get back on the winning streak.

Number65- I'm not so sure that we were "disinterested" as much as being outplayed. We didn't execute as well as the Soo and our best players are not as good as theirs ,and the top players on a few other teams, for that matter. Our rookies (what few we have) are simply not a factor,in this or any other game.

Sudbury???

I don't know what happened to the team that beat Barrie, London and Windsor, but it certainly didn't show up for the bus trip this weekend.

Let's hope McKee finds some answers before our back-to-back with Owen Sound, or we fall out of first place by this time next week.

Number- There is no way we are going to remain in first place, this week or in a couple of weeks. I hate to see it but the talent isn't there! Take a look at this year's draft. The local librarian could have made better selections.

Windsor is a team in an interesting position. They won the MCup last year but are sitting pretty.
They just got Vilardi back although presently injured.
Brown has returned.
Bracco might not be staying with the Marlies and he too might return
They have Luchuk,Day, DiPietro,Smith
Imagine what they might get if they decide to SELL
Imagine the team they will have if they make a couple of additions.
