Alumni report

Postby Number65 on Thu Oct 01, 2009 10:07 am

Mike Richards is sticking with the Philadelphia Flyers (no surprise)

Derek Roy is sticking with the Buffalo Sabres (again, no surprise)

Steve Eminger signed as a Free Agent with Anaheim is on their opening day roster.

Gregory Campbell and Mike Duco are on Florida's opening day roster.

Matt Halischuk and David Clarkson are on New Jersey's opening day roster. Mark Fraser has been placed on the injured reserve list.

Matt Lashoff cleared waivers and has been assigned to Norfolk of the AHL.

Victor Oreskovich has been assigned to Rochester of the AHL.

Jakub Kindl and Evan McGrath have been assigned to Grand Rapids of the AHL.

Nick Spaling has been assigned to Milwaukee of the AHL.

Robert Bortuzzo has been assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on the AHL.

Justin Azevedo has been assigned to Manchester of the AHL.

I'm not including those who were reassigned to Junior teams -- like Timmins, Kadri, Moore, Maxwell, Morin and Randell -- or cut, like Keefe or Turple.

Who have I missed?

Actually Richards was named #10 in the Toronto Sun Top 50 player rankings in yesterday's NHL preview section.

Pretty impressive for a terrific player who is seems to be becoming very well respected in NHL circles.

Team Canada in 2010?

I suspect that he's out with the flu. They were saying that a lot of the fellows are down with the flu and Florida had a short bench today. Some of the fellows were game time decisions. Duco is listed on their roster in Florida's website. Must be a big disappointment to him though.
Don't worry about what others think, they don't do it very often.

Steve Spott and Gary Doyle were talking about this today.

Spott indicated that he expected to see Justin Azevedo playing in Los Angeles before long.

He also said that our ability to develop players for the pros (not just the Richards and the Boedkers, who were "can't miss" prospects, but the Ducos and Clarksons), was a key part of the team's recruiting strategy for people like Maxwell, Morin and Moore/
