Otters Select Rybakov

The Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League selected Lithuanian forward Edgar Rybakov with the fourth overall pick in the 2008 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft being held today via the Internet and conference call.

The 17 year-old forward, who stands 6-foot-1 and weights 185 pounds, is eligible for the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. In 2007-08 he played for CSKA-2 in the Russian League and collected 21 goals and 17 assists for 38 points in 38 games.

“He’s a very, very skilled forward,” said Otters Managing Partner and General Manager Sherry Bassin. “If you’re good enough to play for the Red Army Team then you’re a player. We’ve had numerous conversations with him and he’s excited to be coming to Erie to play.”

Erie passed on their second round pick (64th overall) as member teams are only permitted two Import Players on their roster and standout Slovakian goaltender Jaroslav Janus (selected second overall in the 2007 CHL Import Draft) already occupies one spot.
